CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Our program will provide a progressive series of classes for children
ages 6 months and up. For the young child, classes include songs,
dance, language activities, finger plays, large and small motor skill
exercises, rhythm activities, puppetry, pantomime and group
games. Classes will promote group involvement as well as provide
opportunities for spontaneous play. For older children, classes
include dance, cooking, art, science, karate and Chinese.
INFANT CLASSES: (6 -12 months)
These classes are designed to be a special bonding time between
parent and baby. Besides the activities mentioned in the program
description, this class provides the parents an opportunity to
discuss issues which concern them as parents of a new baby.
CREATIVE MOVEMENT CLASSES: (12-36 months)
Toddlers and their parents will enjoy the diverse age appropriate
activities included in this program: songs, fingerplays, rhythm
sticks, puppetry, parachute play, chants, bean bags, musical instruments,
hoops, bells and dance. Free play is also included where children are
encouraged to develop motor and social skills.
SIBS TOGETHER: (6 months-5 years)
This class offers parents and their children an opportunity to
play together in a warm, fun musical environment. Children will
be encouraged to develop individual skills, as well as interact
playfully together as a family. Parents will have a chance to
discuss sibling issues with other parents.
MIXED AGE CLASSES: (6 months –5 years)
All ages delight in hearing Jeanie’s varied collection of humorous, energetic
and quiet time songs. This music appreciation class has all the elements of the
creative movement classes, plus Jeanie’s original family favorites!
ALL BY MYSELF: (30-40 months)
This class is designed as a transitional class for those children
ready to move from the parent-child atmosphere to being on their
own. The format follows the same pattern as the parent-child
classes, but allows for extra time on the equipment to promote
social development and interactive play. Snack and storytime
make it much like a preschool setting. (1-1/2 hours)
CREATIVE DANCE: (3-5 years) (4-6 years)
Girls and boys will have fun learning simple dance movements
while developing strength, coordination, flexibility and confidence.
A wide variety of music is incorporated in this class with the
primary goal for the children to feel free to uniquely express
themselves through movement. Story interpretation is also part of the fun!
NEW AND EXCITING LOOK FOR THIS SPRING!
BALLROOM DANCE: (9-15 years)
Does a pint-sized Ginger Rogers or Fred Astaire dance
around the kitchen at your house? CKC has partnered with
instructor Candy of Chicago Public School’s, Having A Ball program
for a class meant to inspire and inform the future stars of ballroom dancing!
This teamwork and confidence building session will
highlight several dances: swing, waltz, salsa, tango and fox trot.
Taught in two six week sessions. Cha-Cha-Cha!
MULTI-MEDIA ART: (4-8 years)
Touch and explore a variety of media and combine them in
unexpected ways for fantastic results!
MUSIC & MORE: (3-6 year olds)
Preschoolers use a variety of art forms to develop their natural
creativity and learn to appreciate themselves and others as they
engage in singing, dancing, group games, art exploration,
science activities and drama. This is a natural extension from the
All By Myself class, with a whole lot More! (1-1/2 hrs.)
DANCE & DRAMA: (3-6 year olds) (SPRING & SUMMER)
If you’re looking for fun games, lots of movement and an open
door to imagination, this class is for you. Children will learn skills having
to do with dance as well as improvisation and theatre techniques.
COOKING FOR LIFE: (4-7 yrs) (6-10 yrs) (9-13yrs)
Your child will discover the joy of cooking in this fun and tasty
learning experience! At our splendid new cooking site, we’ll teach
basic processes and techniques using real utensils, unique flavors
and chef tricks. The Cooking For Life curriculum is designed
to be as healthful as it is delicious. Students will gain confidence
in the kitchen, by making a meal, self evaluating the outcome. and
taking home something to be proud of. Bon appetite!
CHINESE LANGUAGE AND CULTURE: FAMILY TIME
Taught in a playful learning environment, students will learn
how to speak, read and write Mandarin. Instructor Li
currently teaches at the Oakton Chinese School.
Older children may attend on their own but parents are welcome
to help reinforce learning at home.
LOVE & LOGIC PARENT WORKSHOP:
Love and Logic is a common sense approach that teaches skills
that cultivate confidence and thoughtful decision making in your
children through choices, empathy, encouragement, and utmost
respect while refraining from hostility, anger, threats, or long, boring
lectures. This system is an easy to learn program and applicable in
anyone’s life. Develop skills that can diffuse power struggles and
raise responsible children. Please indicate interest in days and times.

KARATE: (4-6 years)
The art of Shotokan Karate focusses on the mind/body connection to
self empowerment. Proven to decrease aggressiveness and improve self esteem,
discipline, concentration, speed, flexibility and coordination. Instructor Ronda has
extensive experience working with young girls and boys of all levels and abilities.
HIP HOP: (4-7 years)
Basic hip hop movements deliver energy and fun while developing rhythm, coordination,
and quick thinking abilities. Students will be engaged by appropriate popular music as
they discover the intrigue of this jazz/funk style of dancing.
PICASSO SINGS (3-6 years)
POPULAR CLASS RETURNS!
Utilizing a wide variety of musical styles and artistic mediums, this class promises to
be a rich stimulating experience for young learners. Seamlessly, these two art forms
will blend together thematically, with process as the focus as opposed to product.
YOUNG EINSTEINS (4-6 years)

Do you like to see how things work? Are you interested in the natural world?
Experience the wonders of science exploration! Young Scientists will engage in the
powers of observation and critical thinking while playing intriguing games of discovery!
PUPPETRY (4-7 years)
“What did you say your name was?” “Let’s talk some more, my friend!”
Both simple and elaborate puppets will be created for pure pleasure.
As puppeteers, we delight in group storytelling and improvisation as our imaginations
soar! Puppet theaters bring the experience to life.

The Creative Kids Corner reserves the right to cancel, postpone, change
instructors or combine classes. If insufficient enrollment causes a class to
be canceled, notification will be given and full tuition refunded.
